Android vs iOS for a first app in India

How to choose Android, iOS, or both for a first mobile app, and when a website should ship before either store.

01

Start from the people, not the store

In India, Android is the default phone for a broad audience. iOS is smaller and often concentrates higher spend. If your users are a wide public, Android is usually the first client. If they are a narrow professional or premium segment already on iPhone, iOS can lead. If both groups must act on day one, build both against one backend.

Vedora Labs builds Android and iOS. The recommendation in a proposal follows the audience you can name, not a preference for one logo.

02

What doubles when you ship both

Design can be shared. Store listings, review, device testing, and release trains do not halve themselves. Offline storage and push behave differently enough that 'one codebase' is still two products to verify. Budget the testing, not only the screens.

A web application can be the first release when discovery happens in search or WhatsApp links. Stores are a commitment. They are the right commitment when the work happens away from a browser or needs the home screen.

03

A practical sequence

Write the one job the app must finish without a phone call. If that job is 'read and enquire', a website is enough. If it is 'complete a task with poor signal, then sync', plan mobile early. Pick the platform that holds the majority of those users. Add the second platform when the first release has real usage, unless a contract requires both at launch.

We scope this in the excavation step, before anyone argues about frameworks.

Questions

Should an Indian business launch on Android first?
Often yes, when the audience is the general public. Choose iOS first when you can show that your buyers are already there. Choose both when neither group can wait.
Do you build cross-platform or fully native?
We choose the approach that keeps one backend and a native-quality result on each store, including offline use and push. The proposal names the approach. We do not hide it behind a slogan.
